Found the BEST Italian restaurant. I loved the crab stuffed mushrooms and the Pollo Valdostana (rolled chicken breast stuffed with arugula, sun dried tomato and fontina cheese in mushroom sauce) was amazing. The staff worked together to cover all the tables ANC I never had to think about having my drink re-filled. Fantastic food, great service and a nice ambiance means I'll be back the next time I'm in town.

Great food, good service! Try the Calamari Fra Diavolo, it's got calamari, lump crab meat in a spicy red sauce. There is a full bar and / or you can BYOB.

After an outstanding experience here about three years ago, I - along with my party of 15 - reserved a spot at Castello for a graduation lunch. I wish I had gone elsewhere. I guess I will start with the one positive: the entrees. My gnocchi was delicious, and everyone else seemed to enjoy their dishes. However, the appetizers and desserts that I tried - including butternut squash soup and cannoli - were flavorless. The service was absolutely horrible. I asked our waiter if I could substitute gnocchi for orecchiette, and he just looked at me like I was stupid. When several members of our party asked what desserts he would recommend, he flatly stated - and I quote - "The desserts are all the same to me. I have never eaten here. I wouldn't want to come here on my days off, and when I am working I don't have time to eat." Everyone was stunned. Waiters are supposed to be able to recommend dishes... that's probably one of the most important parts of the job! He could have at least made something up, but instead he made the entire restaurant look bad. Another negative was the lack of complimentary bread. One would imagine that if a restaurant knew weeks in advance that a large party was expected then they would be prepared with a few loaves. Instead, they were "waiting for the delivery". One of the members of our party left her camera on the table, so I got a call from the restaurant saying that I had to pick it up before 5:00, even though they are open far past 5:00 for dinner. I asked why I couldn't pick it up after 5:00 (I was tied up and couldn't get there in time), and they said that the restaurant gets busy at night. Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't know that handing a camera to someone required such a great deal of effort!

Great restaurant! Went as a party of 10+ people, and they served us perfectly. The waiter was very good and professional. I got the Siciliano Pasta. It was sausage, pasta, onions, garlic, and mushrooms. A bit plain. However, I enjoyed it. A very nice restaurant. Great service, and pretty good food!

Went while visiting with parents I had striped bass special which was good but most entrees came with au gratin potatoes : asked if I could substitute a side of pasta ( as menu stated " don't see something on menu? just ask us) They were happy to sub the pasta , oh for $5.50: Told them that in an Italian restaurant that this was silly... so didn't order it Bread was very fresh Moms chicken Parmesan was overcooked and uninspiring Shareda chocolate mousse cake for desert: not great either

My boyfriend and I came to Castellos for our anniversary dinner on a Saturday night. We made a reservation and thank goodness for that, people started to pour in!! We were seated immediately and were given yummy bread to hold us over. Our waitress Chrissy was excellent and friendly. We met the other wait staff and felt very taken care of. The calamari is to die for, and the entrees were perfectly portioned and delicious. Not too long of a wait for the food. Overall, excellent experience. Castellos tops any other Italian restaurant I have been to. We will be returning very soon :) thanks Castellos, for an anniversary to remember!

A welcome change to BB! Atmosphere of both indoor and outdoor dining is very inviting. For only being open a month service was great and friendly. Although the food is great, the kitchen needs a little more a attention to detail. Food temp. and salads. For now I would skip the menu salads. Flavor of salads need to be more developed---not what you expect from an Italian Restaurant. Overall, a great dining experience and will be back.

What a nice local BYOB, with a group effort of efficient service, a cozy atmosphere, and very good food. I actually think Castello is way better than Alison's Place which occupied this space many moons ago. The dining room has at least doubled in size and the outdoor seating is attractive and welcoming. The food: The fresh spinach salad was very fresh, the champagne vinaigrette was excellent and the toasted goat cheese was melt in your mouth delicious. Pine nuts added a nice crunch. The salmon over lobster risotto was a mixed bag. The salmon was cooked a perfect medium, moist, nice sear, the risotto which had nice pieces of lobster in it was over cooked, on the mushy side, but the flavors held up. The tuna special, according to my closest friend in my world, was very good, fresh, cooked perfectly, and a very nice sized cut. Definitely a very good spot for BYOB dining. I will return soon.

We ate here in January for my Mother in laws birthday, party of 8. The food was good but not very large portions for the prices. Not sure that we will be back. Our waiter John was not very friendly. It was our first time eating here and he seemed annoyed at any questions. He was rushing us to make our decisions on our order and was talking down to us and being rude. I gave 3 Stars for the food but the service should have been better! We should have complained that night but we were being rushed out because people were waiting. I don't think they would have cared anyway. Definitely not a warm & fuzzy place.

We had a group of 9 people for our xmas dinner. Our waiter Chris was wonderful. He knew everything about the menu. The food was great. The place was clean and beautifully decorated for the holidays. We had a wonderful evening and meal. Will be going back again.

We ate here for the second time Saturday and were impressed again. Split a crab, avocado appetizer that was so fresh and tasty. I had the hazelnut ravioli topped with shrimp & scallops. Delicious and just the right amount if food. More of a special occasion restaurant for us, wouldn't take the kids, but we will absolutely go back.

This our go to place for Birthdays, special occasions and for just a great dinner experience. If you want a professional wait and service staff that is just welcoming and not stuffy come here. I have never had a bad experience with the food or staff. I once ordered something but when i got it discover that is not what i wanted and without drama they gave me something else. i can't say enough about this place! such a gem!!!

Friends of mine dined at Castello last night and raved about their experience. Consequently, they were shocked to read negative reviews from the past. They wanted very much to post their positive reviews, but have not had success on YELP. We are all wondering how long it takes for a review to appear after submitting. To the reviewer who "skeeved" the restaurant's carpet- there is no need., the owner and his staff are meticulous !

This is our new go-to restaurant for special occasions. If we could afford it, we'd go there weekly, but that's just not in the cards. However, that said, we have never had a bad meal here, and the staff? Incredible! Everyone is so friendly, and the owner is there, working right along with his staff and making a point to stop at every table for a word. We were at the restaurant tonight for my husband's birthday. We shared the calamari fritti (every piece so tender!). I had an evening special - the most amazing veal chop (easily large enough for 2). He had another special - Dover sole, deboned tableside. It was melt-in-your-mouth amazing!! Once again we oohed and aahed our way through our meal, and look forward to returning in the not too distant future.

My in-laws made reservations here based on rave reviews from all their friends. Those reviews lived up to the hype! We went with my in-laws and my parents and the 6 of us really enjoyed our evening. The BYOB part was a huge plus! Everyone ordered something a little different for appetizers and for main entrees, some of us enjoyed the specials (fish or pastas) and took recommendations from our fantastic server (John). We even saved a little room for dessert and had to roll ourselves out to our cars! We will absolutely be back and we are already planning what we will try next time!

This is our new favorite in the area (bluebell). Great northern Italian inspired cooking. The fish baked in sea salt is one of our favorites. Really we have not had a bad meal there yet. Great staff and service. Read some reviews and yes sometimes it gets very crowded.... That's I feel is good sign. Not sure why you would want to eat in a restaurant where no one wants to go.

With no expectations other than having a good meal with friends, I had dinner here. I do believe that the staff goes out of their way with "regulars," as my friends are. "Team service" provided us with what appeared uninterrupted attention to detail. The staff was "there," but they did not hover. A diverse menu and specials made making a selection difficult, but my guests found our way. Four different appetizers. Four different entrees. I had the chance to taste all eight offerings. Salads. Fresh ingredients. Beautifully prepared. Calamari. Fried, but not overly. Not chewy, but very good. Duck. Not greasy. Tender and delicious. Grouper with Crab Risotto. My entree. Outstanding. Pasta with vegetables. Simple. Fresh. Elegant. The atmosphere is close and when the restaurant is full the noise level can be disruptive. This does not take away from what is one of the best dining experiences in the area. I look forward to going back on a quieter evening for more good food.

I think last night was our fifth outing to Castello's..... And as usual everyone was ecstatic with their experience here! The bread...traditional sesame seed Italian just like I remember from my childhood in Boston's Italian North End.... Everything was just perfect.... Osso Bucco, Italian wedding soup, avocado caprese salad, the homemade linguini was truly one of the best pastas I've ever had! When can we come back?!

My husband and I have been going to Castello's ever since there were in North Wales. Since then, have moved to Blue Bell. Excellent Food, Staff, couldn't ask for a better night out! Everyone is very polite and the food is worth every penny! Would recommend going for special nights out/date/bday/anniversary. It is one of our favorite places around, would eat there at least once a week if it was in our budget! The staff makes a huge difference when dining out. They are very professional and friendly.

This is the 2nd time we've been to Castello's in Blue Bell recently. Both times we've had the same reaction. The food was very good, albeit, expensive. Dinner for 2 with no drinks, 1 salad, 1 appetizer and 2 entrees, was $92 before tip. That said, service was no where near the quality it should have been. We were seated fairly quickly and offered tap water. The tables next to us were all offered tap, sparkling or bottled water. Not a real issue, but then we were given the specials rattled off so quickly that we had to ask they be repeated twice. Appetizer and salad arrived, then dinner. Then we sat. We sat for 15 minutes before the waiter asked if we were done, took my leftovers to wrap up, and bring the check. It took 5 more minutes to get the check. After that he asked if we wanted coffee or dessert. There were a lot of "regulars" in the restaurant. All of the tables around us were offered drinks, coffee/tea/cappucino and dessert. We were treated like poor relations, relegated to mediocre service. As I said, this happened last time too, and that was a table of 10. Not rushing to go back.

You can eat anything here and it will be the best..the list of specials is longer than the full menu of many restaurants in the area..

Came here about three weeks ago. I had the Paste Freshe tortellini filled with veal in a cognac truffle cream sauce. Easily the best pasta I have ever had. I was not even hungry and I finished my plate, which seldom happens. Everyone in our party was impressed.

This is an outstanding BYOB with excellent Italian food. We have been several times for lunch and dinner. Never have had a bad meal. Menus is great as is the service. Friendly knowledgable staff that know the menu inside and out. Highly recommend this spot.

I really wanted to like this place. We had no complaints about the taste of the food. There were 8 of us for the 8pm seating. The place was mobbed and it was impossible to hear anyone talk if they were sitting on either side of you. Very loud, not lending to a relaxing atmosphere. We were given our menus upon sitting down and we ordered within a few minutes. One hour and 45 minutes later we were served our salads. My husband ordered a veal dish with crab. When he received it, it was veal with shrimp and he's deathly allergic to shrimp. He asked the waiter about it who said they were out of crab and they substituted shrimp (without asking). We didn't have one waiter - it was whoever was free at the time taking care of us. It appeared they had a hard core of regulars who received a lot of attention and long conversations with the wait staff. The food was good - especially the calamari, but with their lack of attention (and almost sending my husband to the hospital if he hadn't noticed the shrimp) we certainly won't become the regulars who receive all the attention. If you don't mind loud atmosphere, inattention to service, but great food, this is the place for you!

Had a group of 6 and all were very pleased with the food and service. Steak was very good. Lamb chops slightly undercooked for medium but meat was very tender. Not sure about the noise complaints as our room was full and the level of noise was acceptable. BYOB was very welcomed.

This restaurant hit the trifecta of bad. There were problems with the service, the food and the ambiance that would not make me recommend this place to anyone. We went on a Saturday night and there are essentially two seatings - at 6 and at 8. It's clear from the service that they don't like you to deviate from or linger any longer than your alloted time. When we told our server to give us a minute to review the menu, he came back in less than 15 seconds and hovered until we ordered. My husband who was closest to him complained that the waiter smelled really bad. I ordered the special ravioli and the waiter repeated my order back to me and yet still brought me the wrong entree. He was not apologetic but confused and defensive. I understand people make mistakes and generally that kind of thing doesn't bother me, but his reaction was disappointing. While most of the entrees were good, my husband ordered the special appetizer - a crab, avocado and tomato salad. Ordering tomatoes in December is always risky but I would automatically assume the chef would use grape or cherry tomatoes. Nope! Not here. The app had pink mealy tomatoes and too many of them at that. Seriously, who does that? What chef of any common sense serves up a severely out of season tomato? That alone is a deal breaker for me. Finally, the ambiance. While the restaurant has a air of elegance, high ceilings with drapes in the long windows. In truth any restaurant that has carpeting skeeves me. If they are willing to put a bad tomato on the plate, I'm not confident they are more attentive to the cleanliness. For the money, quality and price, I wouldn't bother. There are too many good restaurants around.

Stupendous. Absolutely wonderful BYOB. Reservations are a must. Food was a bit pricey but worth it. Our server was pleasant, knowledgable, and accomodating. From the moemnt we got there, until the moment we left, I fealt relaxed, happy, and truly enjoyed myself. Go. Now. It's good.

We went and won't go again. As someone else said, there are better restaurants in the area. Food was overpriced for what it was. I have had better Seafood and Linguine for considerably less at the neighborhood restaurants like Roman Delight, etc.

I was born in Italy, and this is the most authentic Italian cuisine I have enjoyed outside of Center City. The service is continually excellent, and endeavors to remain on a first-name basis with customers. This is important, because many of the people who eat here are "regulars" from Blue Bell and Gwynedd area. I will admit there is somewhat of a bias because of this, but it fosters the community feel that they're trying to achieve here. Also willing to accommodate literally any special request. They will be expanding in the near future, as they are acquiring the other side of the building; have been told there will be a bar in the middle, but that the restaurant will most likely remain BYO (which is crucial because the meals are expensive). One of my favorite restaurants in the suburbs and I highly recommend it.

Definitely pleasantly "surprised" by our dining experience here. The "surprised" part comes from my uncanny ability to frequent bad Italian establishments. This was one of the very few times that I was floored by how delicious the food was. Fiance and I were searching for a place to have our rehearsal dinner, and after our first stop at a nearby restaurant had nearly destroyed our appetites and ruined our spirits for the day, we needed to find something good to eat. We were the first folks in for dinner, and had the full attention of our waiter, John. He could not have been more genuinely concerned with answering our questions, and was really on point with menu knowledge and service. He is really a great and personable server. Out and about on wedding-related missions all day, we were dressed fairly casually in jeans and sneakers (which I only took personal inventory of later on when I saw that other customers definitely dressed up a bit more- slacks and collared or polo shirts or sweaters for guys, ladies in pants/skirts), but I did not feel for a minute out of place nor was I made to feel out of place. Unpretentious- check! Now to the tasty part: the food. Delicious, fresh bread served with good, quality olive oil for dipping. We ordered the artichoke appetizer, which was delicious: hot, fresh, cooked nicely and seasoned appropriately. The combination of the cooked artichoke and olive oil created a delicious reduction that we dipped the artichoke bits into. We then split the tuna special, which came with a tasty, zingy, puttanesca sauce that complimented the understated flavor of the tuna ( finance likes his tuna cooked medium... I know, I know.. and since we were food tasting at different restaurants in the area, we ordered it cooked this way). The platter also came with grilled scallops that were very nicely done. We also ordered a small plate of the hazelnut ravioli. This was superb. Pasta tasted homemade ( we forgot to ask, but fairly certain it was), was cooked perfectly to al dente, and the filling and accompanying sauce were simply delicious. I have reached my "delicious" maximum, but I am not embellishing, I swear! We somehow fit in cannoli for dessert: again, we were not disappointed. The cannoli had some stiff competition with its predecessors, but it was really pretty good. I *have* had better, but it was very good none the less and ranks up there with the best. The restaurant filled up quickly and all at once ( which can be a nightmare for the staff), but the servers worked together and we were attended to frequently and without a hitch. All in all, I am extremely happy we found this place. We will definitely be returning and feel very good about choosing this establishment to have our rehearsal dinner. We know we will give our family and friends a great, well-deserved and memorable dining experience!!

We wanted to try this place because of the rave reviews on this site, and we miss Allison. Indoor seemed nice, but outdoors was basically a noisy, drafty heated tent. Appetizers took 50 minutes! The waitress reassured us "food was coming" at 30 and 45 min into the wait. We cut our losses by, canceling the dinner orders. The artichoke was not bad. No explanation for the long wait, hollow apology, and no visit from the manager. Very disappointed. If you're looking for a Byob where you can chat, drink and nibble on chewy bread for at least an hour before actually being served, this is your place.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
